To further explain why I felt the need to attend Eastercon earlier this year and plan to attend it again in 2027, it's because Donald Trump and the Republican Party have transformed my country into one I can no longer recommend any of my friends visit. https://www.semafor.com/article/09/29/2026/decline-in-tourism-hits-us-economy

Once again, in the name of 'Child Safety', the EU are drafting an act that enforces invasive personally identifyable information gathering measure for the very act of 'using online services' (similar to what the EU enforced on Discord).

Games are being defined under 'online service' in this act & they intend to make 'Private/P2P hosted game servers illegal.

This is overreach at it's finest.

Making an appointment for some medical test.

"after the procedure, you won't be able to drive home"
"this is Amsterdam, why would anyone be driving anyway?"

@noodlemaz i'm not going looking tbh ;-)

Reach of podcasts stays steady: The Podcast Landscape 2026: More new listeners are finding podcasts though https://podnews.net/update/podcast-landscape-26

Uff, der ständiger Fokus auf "Aber wie wird die KI das dann finden?" bei strukturierten Daten hinterlässt dann doch ein Geschmäckle...

@markus_netzpolitik

@Otttoz @notizie

capisco in camera mia ormai comandano i cavi 😂

Digital Ocean killed its "we give Open Source projects a bit of free hosting" policy basically at the same time they dropped 3 million USD on Omarchy, DHH's (who is a fascist and racist) set of config files he calls a distribution.

This is exactly the kind of "Power Grab" I wrote about a few weeks ago: https://tante.cc/2026/09/11/power-grab/

DHH is working towards accumulating open source funding to be able to direct it towards projects that align with his technical and ideological views.

It's hard to overstate how dangerous that is for all of us.

#WritersCoffeeClub October 1: What are you hoping to achieve this month?

Finish this goddamn rewrite, turn it around to my agent, then go back and start another rewrite of the *other* book.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

@tante You're damned right I will. I already feel gross about having been a customer of theirs and grosser still that I haven't done it yet (it'll take a bit of time to transition).

@davidgerard can you see the comments on his LW post?
Does anyone call it out for the rape apology it is??
